| YOU ARE HERE: Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing |
Geometric
Dimensioning and Tolerancing It replaces confusing and inconsistent notes and datum lines with standard symbols that refer to a universal code, the ASME Y14.5M-1994- Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard, an international symbolic engineering language. This improves cross-functional communication and helps avoid costly changes on drawings after initial release. GDT is the engineering product definition standard which describes the geometric features of a product and their operational relationships (expressed as tolerance) to each other and their functional interfaces with mating parts, assemblies, etc. It provides the documentation base for the design of the production and quality systems. |
