Advantages
of the GDT Symbology
- Symbols
are more quickly drawn and, because of their compactness, can be applied
at or near the place on the drawing to which they apply
- With
combinations of symbols, requirements may be clearly stated which would
otherwise require long notes
- Symbols
are in clear view at the place of application on the drawing
- Symbols
are uniformly interpretable when a National Standard and its revision
level is stated on the drawing
- The symbol
approach tends to provide more order and precision to the general drawing
appearance
- The use
of symbolic methods is in keeping with the objectives of international
standardization where barriers of language, as well as technical understanding,
must be overcome.
Every feature
on a component part must in some way be controlled for its SIZE, FORM, ORIENTATION,
or LOCATION.
Based
on the ASME Y14.5 M-1994 Standard
