6. ISO14001 Lead Auditor
(5Day Workshop)

This class is being offered in association with Marsden International. This course is registered by EARA and satisfies part of the formal training requirements for individuals seeking registration under the EARA registration scheme.

Who Should Attend

Professionals who may want to attend the course range from 1st, 2nd and 3rd party auditors, environmental professionals wishing to audit EMS; quality systems auditors needing to develop their skills regarding EMS auditing; Health & Safety trained personnel plus others who have studied the EMS Standards and are familiar with basic management systems and auditing principles.

Course Aims And Objectives

The need for developing special skills in carrying out objective and systematic environmental audits is growing rapidly as companies prepare for ISO14001 and EMAS. This 5-day Environmental Auditors Training Course has been designed specifically for members of in-house company environmental teams or management consultancies and Certification Bodies who wish to develop their skills and knowledge of the Environmental Management System Audit process.

A combination of concise lectures and presentations will be made together with group and individual exercises. Participants will be divided into environmental audit teams who will work on a Case Study. An EMS Audit will be undertaken as a simulated exercise. Slides, plans and other aids will be available and at the end of the week each audit team will present the findings to the other groups.

This course provides individuals with the ability and confidence to ask the right questions, to evaluate environmental information and to undertake effective environmental audits, which meet the requirements of the international auditing standards.

Course Content

This is a 5-day intensive "hands-on" course, which follows a structured and detailed program covering the following subjects:

    1. Review and update on ISO 14001 and relationships between different EMS Standards
    2. Understanding the roles of national, international bodies, certifiers, auditors and verifiers related to the EMS function
    3. Detailed information on the EMS Auditing Process including exercises and examples of documents and other evidence which reveals the effectiveness of the EMS
    4. Introduction to the techniques for the identification of environmental aspects ranging from risk assessment methodologies, life cycle analysis, emission analysis, identification of significant releases and relating this to the EMS
    5. Overview of environmental legislation and the interface with environmental management systems
    6. Understanding how to assess the degree of control of environmental impacts within an organization and how to evaluate the effectiveness of these measures
    7. Assessing the programs and delivery of internal EMS auditing within an organization and investigating the management review of the system
    8. Includes mandatory evening sessions and a final exam
